🔥 Uniquely Austin Food Joints

Standout places showing you Texas isn't just BBQ, Guns and Pickup Trucks

  • Birdie’s (East Austin) – Modern American done casually, with natural wine and seasonal plates. Walk-in only, and always worth the wait. They call their concept 'fine-casual' meaning you wont break the bank on a date but your stomach will thank you.

  • Tsuke Edomae (North East Austin)– A $135 20 course omakase that rivals what you'd find in NYC or LA. Minimalist, intimate, and legit Edomae-style. The chef, Michael Che (no not SNL) has been training his whole life to bring you this life altering experience. The waitlist is long and harder to get on than an SNL set so set up notifications ASAP.

  • Paprika (North Austin) – A food truck slinging tacos with real flavor and balance. Quietly becoming one of the best in the city. Get some Al Pastor and pretend you are in Mexico City like all the influencers you live vicariously through. Fun fact the concept of Al Pastor came from when Lebanese immigrants came over to Mexico in the 1930s and is a spin on shawarma

  • KG BBQ (East Side)– Where Egyptian flair takes BBQ to new heights with a bold mix of spice, smoke, and unexpected delights! Brisket paired with toum? Absolutely! The pitmaster, Kareem El-Ghayesh (known as KG among BBQ enthusiasts), is a true innovator. Years ago, he experienced a BBQ revelation with his first Texas-style meal. Seizing the opportunity, he worked the pits for free, mastering the art of BBQ. Fast forward, and he's now a BBQ maestro, infusing his creations with pomegranate seeds and tahini. If you've savored classics like Terry's BBQ, prepare to exhilarate your taste buds and reignite your love for comfort food!

🥗 Healthy(ish) Chains You’ll Actually Like

When you want fast casual but still want to look good with your shirt off at Barton Springs

  • Honest Mary’s (North Austin) – Think Sweetgreen but Texan. Grain bowls, good protein, and flavor that doesn’t feel phoned in. Great to have after you crushed 4 pickleback shots the night before.

🦪 The Known Names That Still Hit

You’ve heard of them—but they’re still worth a visit just like that late night booty call you continue to go back to.

  • Clark’s Oyster Bar – Pricey? Yes. Overrated? No. Best oysters and martinis combo in Austin, hands down. Great for when you wish you weren't land locked and on a New England Coast. Feeling really boujee then grab the caviar spread with some champagne. Feeling poor and that made you mad? Hit the happy hour 3-5pm M-F.
